| The Asia
Society was founded in 1956 by John D. Rockefeller III to
foster understanding between Asians and Americans. In 1979,
Mr. Rockefeller and his wife granted this institution a collection
of over 300 works ranging from paintings, ceramics and sculpture
which date as far back as 2000 BC.
The Asian Society's pan-Asian approach to covering all of
Asia's cultures is evident in its exhibitions and its other
offerings. Exhibitions of ancient and modern art, as well
as programs consisting of the performing arts, lectures, films,
speeches are what make this institution.
