There are a number of fronts on which to reclaim our nation as well as a number of activist groups which will be listed below. But one item of many to focus on is:
Tell the Senate to
SAY NO TO THE CAP & TRADE BILL!
On June 26, 2009 the House of Representatives (Congress) passed this legislation. The bill sets a cap on emissions of greenhouse gases. By 2020, emissions must be reduced 17% over 2005 levels. By 2050, emissions must be reduced 80% or more. Staying under these caps is done with a system of permits or allowances. Companies must have an allowance for every ton of greenhouse gas they emit. They are allowed to buy and sell those allowances, but gradually the total number of allowances will be reduced, thus reducing overall emissions.
Next in line will be the Senate. 'and it is up to us to let them know how we feel. In the House this legislature passed by a very narrow margin: 219-212.
Let's let them know what we think!
Carbon's Power Brokers
Washington Post, Sunday, June 1, 2008 By George F. Will "An unprecedentedly radical government grab for control of the American economy will be debated this week when the Senate considers saving the planet by means of a cap-and-trade system to ration carbon emissions... The Wall Street Journal underestimates cap-and-trade's perniciousness when it says the scheme would create a new right ("allowances") to produce carbon dioxide and would put a price on the right. Actually, because freedom is the silence of the law, that right has always existed in the absence of prohibitions. With cap-and-trade, government would create a right for itself-- an extraordinarily lucrative right to ration Americans' exercise of their traditional rights."
This isn't about Left vs. Right
or
Democratic vs. Republican
It's about standing together as Americans and reclaiming our country and the future for our children.
