With eight appropriately named ships making
up its fleet, Circle Line Ferry will take you for quite a ride through
New York City's Harbor. It's one of many
cruises available into New York Harbor. Their wonderfully narrated
cruises will take you into the Harbor, the Hudson River as well
as the East River. Then there's their Statue of Liberty Monuments
Excursions from which you're allowed to stroll the grounds of Liberty
Island and Ellis Island. All their cruises are great ways to explore
a bit of New York City History and see what's beyond those water
front edges of lower Manhattan.
Yours truly has had the pleasure of traveling on a couple of their
offered cruises. Continue reading for reviews:
- Twilight Cruise: Wow!
What an experience to cruise through New York Harbor on the hour
or so just before sunset! To take in that grand ocean air and
photograph lower Manhattan's buildings as they reflect the almost
setting sun is a treat in and of itself. But wait, this is a water
bound voyage we're talking about, so let's forget about land for
a minute! This is a cruise which will take you in a semi-circle
through Manhattan Island's lower tip from beyond Battery Park
City through the Harbor and on to the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges.
Midway through this trip is the pause at the near center of the
harbor in front of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Here
is where the boat makes a 180 degree turn giving one an almost
surreal view of all the surrounding monuments and coasts. Throughout
is the voice-over narration. This is an experience for folks of
all ages. Check below for prices.
- Liberty Island Ferry:
This voyage unlike the above Twilight Cruise and other Harbor
Cruises will actually take you to Liberty Island where you can
either disembark onto the grounds for a nice stroll or remain
on board to continue your trip to Ellis Island. It's at this island
where you'll find a museum dedicated to the history of immigration
and its role in America during the mass migrations of the 19th
and 20th centuries. Of course, as before you're not obligated
to leave the boat for Ellis Island. It's up to you whether you
want to go strolling upon its grounds or continuing your trip
back to New York City or to New Jersey's Liberty State Park from
which this and all other cruises depart as well. What makes this
particular cruise uniquely special is the fact that you could
take your time at any of the above mentioned islands as long as
you're sure to get on the last departing ferry from each one.
Also note that it's only 10 minutes of travel between either island.
