NYC Day Trips - John F. Kennedy (JFK) Boulevard E. Drive in New Jersey

Visit the Beyond Our Borders Main Page

Located just along a drive spanning quite some distance northward from the Lincoln Tunnel is John F. Kennedy Boulevard East.

Visiting:

Each time we've visited this area felt like the very first time due to the spectacular panoramic views of New York City from across the Hudson River. Although what's more spectacular than visiting during the day time is visiting in the evening. That's right! NYC is truly aglow during the late hour with all its sparkling skyscrapers that stand mightily along its skyline. One surprising find on our part is how we've managed to always get a parking spot along this drive although you might want to pay extra attention to the traffic signs which will indicate what hours if any parking is prohibited.

It's a real treat to get to JFK Boulevard, park and go for a stroll. Along the way are a number of small parks with benches and historical highlights which we can only presume are from the Revolutionary War. Remember that the Hudson River and the cliffs along the Jersey and Manhattan coast were of great military importance during the war. A coupla of parks we can actually mention by name would be Fort Hamilton Park and Old Glory Park.

History:

Details regarding the historical significance of this are will come at a later date.

Getting there:

  • After crossing the Lincoln Tunnel from the Manhattan Side getting to JFK Boulevard can be pretty tricky...thus, stay tuned for updates regarding this route.
  • Usually we'd get there from the George Washington Bridge. Heading southward along River Road we'll eventually head west making a right turn up to the cliffs where we would find the Boulevard itself.
  • Travel Time: It all depends on traffic which can be brutal during the rush hour. At other times it can simply be mere minutes to get to the southern end of this drive from Manhattan.

There'll be more photos to come from some of our evening visits as well as those pics taken at other parks found along the way on this boulevard.
