With Spectacular views of the surrounding
peaks and ridges there is an outlook along route 202 which yours
truly came across. 'and it's truly spectacular! Of course there's
much more within the parkland and mountain range itself, we'll get
around to that in due time.
The Bear Mountain peak rises about 1,305 feet above sea level on
the western bank of the Hudson River. As well of course is Bear
Mountain State Park which features opportunities for sports lovers
in Winter and Summer, an indoor Merry-Go-Round, Sports fields, boating
opportunities, hiking, ice skating, fishing, pool and so much more!
Let's not forget about Hessian Lake on which one can rent boats
and such or simply admire as you sit along the grassy edges of this
water masse.
Of course what may be the very best feature for outdoor ethusiasts
and photographers of every caliber is Perkins Memorial Drive which
leads one on a very long winding uphill trek to the peak. It's here
where you'd find the tower offering yet better views of the surrounding
highlands. The road leading to this peak is the sort which'll have
your ears popping as you continue on to greater heights. Coming
back down though, yours truly had to go perhaps a bit slower than
the recommended speed level of 15mph. Why? Well, the cliff-like
edges are quite close to this two way road itself and it wouldn't
benefit anyone to go any faster than that.
The Bear Mountain Bridge you'll come across along route 202 connects
the Eastern & Western sides of the Hudson River. The bridge
reaches a height of 155 feet and spans 2,257 feet.
